Reading and Writing 4

For English-speaking children ages 7–9

Level 4 is designed for children who already have a solid foundation in English and are ready to dive deeper into reading, writing, speaking and understanding how language works — all in a fun, supportive environment.

In this engaging class, kids will:

• Strengthen their reading skills through age-appropriate texts that spark curiosity

• Explore grammar and sentence structure in a way that’s easy to understand and fun to apply

• Develop richer vocabulary using adjectives, adverbs and descriptive language

• Gain confidence in speaking and sharing ideas in group discussions

• Practice writing with purpose, using punctuation like speech marks and exclamation points correctly

• Learn how to organize their thoughts into clear, creative stories and paragraphs

Children tackle tricky spelling patterns like ough and igh, as well as silent letters and irregular plurals — all presented in a way that’s easy to understand and remember.

Through our structured reading scheme, they begin reading simple instructions and are introduced to their first comprehension tasks, building confidence in understanding and responding to written texts.

Spelling and dictation are balanced with fun word games, keeping learning interactive and enjoyable. Children also learn how to alphabetize and begin using dictionaries — key tools for improving their journal writing and creative storytelling.

Core reading and writing skills are brought to life through exciting, cross-curricular themes such as volcanoes, space, and jungles — turning each lesson into an adventure and giving new vocabulary real-world context.

My kids have been attending Custom Kids classes for more than 5 years now, which has helped them a lot to boost their English skills and feel confident and interested in improving their English overall. I honestly did not even realize how quickly they started reading and became quite fluent. They have always liked their teachers and went to class with high motivation, from playgroup to first reading and writing all the way to creative writing classes. The class activities vary a lot and leave freedom to the kids to also choose what they want to do, depending on their interest. They also enjoyed some acting in class, preparing the end of the year performances for the parents.
